At the Singapore Oceanarium, we strive to provide a platform for individuals and communities of all ages and backgrounds to play their part in marine research, outreach and conservation.

Docent Programme

The docent programme aims to bring passionate individuals to deliver fun, educational messages on marine life by volunteering in the aquarium.  
 
By engaging and interacting with visitors around the Singapore Oceanarium, docents can learn more about marine biodiversity and contribute to a greater awareness of our oceans while honing their public speaking and presentation skills!

Programme Benefits

  • Learn more about the marine animals in the aquarium and how our aquarists care for them 
  • Interact with guests at our touch pool and around the Oceanarium  
  • Share engaging stories about marine biology and conservation

Requirements

  • Attend all training sessions  
  • Be able to volunteer at least 48 hours annually  
  • Be 18 years and above

Ocean Advocate

Ocean Advocates conducts coastal cleanups (beach, mangrove, kayak and dive) that aim to raise awareness of marine pollution issues in Singapore and encourage environmental stewardship in our team members and volunteers.

Requirements

  • Must attend online briefing prior to cleanup
  • Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult (parent/guardian)

Citizen Science Programme

The Citizen Science Programme serves as a platform for members of the public to get involved in conservation efforts through scientific surveys and data collection. Training will be provided and data collected will be used for long-term conservation planning.  
 
Our citizen science programmes include surveying intertidal zones, corals, turtles and horseshoe crabs! 

Programme Benefits

  • Learn more about the local intertidal wildlife around Singapore and how to identify them
  • Learn about how scientific surveys are done and why they are important
  • Experience how an intertidal survey is conducted and contribute to the documentation process 

Requirements

  • Be 18 years old and above
  • Attend all training sessions
