The future of our oceans depends on the ideas, voices, and actions of today’s youth. Launched in 2023, the Youth Ocean Ambassador programme invites passionate youth in Singapore aged 15 to 18 to step forward, connect with like-minded peers, and take an active role in marine conservation. Through hands-on experiences, mentorship, and collaboration, the Youth Ocean Ambassador programme challenges participants to explore real marine issues, build confidence, and grow into advocates ready to inspire change within their schools and communities.
In December 2025, over 40 students from various schools and a group of returning mentors from earlier cohorts came together for an immersive, week-long experience. Centered on the theme of marine pollution, the programme took a deep dive into its many forms, real-world challenges, and the ongoing efforts to address them. Along the way, participants gained a clearer understanding of how pollution impacts marine ecosystems—and why these issues demand urgent attention.
Learning extended far beyond the classroom. Visits to Singapore Oceanarium and Changi Beach allowed participants to explore Singapore’s marine biodiversity up close and witness firsthand how pollution threatens these environments. Expert sharing sessions with the oceanarium’s Education, Fish & Invertebrates, and Conservation & Science teams offered behind-the-scenes insights into conservation, research, and animal care. Case studies, debates, field investigations, and an energetic scavenger hunt kept learning dynamic, interactive, and grounded in real-world context.
The Youth Ocean Ambassador programme is not just about learning. It is about taking action. Working in project teams, participants tackled real conservation challenges by examining existing solutions, uncovering lesser-known issues, and finding creative ways to communicate their findings. Their journey culminated in a vibrant Film Festival, where participants premiered short films that showcased their critical thinking, teamwork, and creativity, while raising awareness about the urgency and complexity of marine pollution.
The impact of the Youth Ocean Ambassador programme is best captured through the voices of those who experienced it:
“I loved interacting with like-minded students from other schools and sharing ideas together. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, including the staff and interns.”
“I really liked how the programme used different approaches—from case studies to debates—to explore pollution. I really, really enjoyed myself!”
“Being a mentor opened my eyes. It made me realise that I can lead, inspire, and collaborate with others to protect our oceans and marine life.”
“Helping my team grow their love for the ocean reminded me that there are so many like-minded individuals out there. This experience strengthened my own passion as much as theirs.”
The Youth Ocean Ambassador programme is more than just a programme. It is a place to grow your voice, take meaningful action, and stand alongside others who care deeply about the future of our oceans. Ready to turn curiosity into impact and be part of a movement shaping a more sustainable world? Step forward to join us as the next generation of Youth Ocean Ambassadors!

Imagine lying in your sleeping bag as manta rays glide above you, sharks silently patrol the waters, and schools of shimmering fish dance in front of your eyes. This is not a dream. This is Ocean Dreams, Singapore Oceanarium’s reimagined overnight experience.
No brain, no bones, no central nervous system. Yet behind the delicate beauty of sea jellies lies a world of complexity that makes caring for them one of the most challenging jobs in an oceanarium. Or some say, in the world.
When the tide recedes, Singapore’s coastline reveals a hidden world teeming with life. Through Singapore Oceanarium’s Citizen Science programme, anyone can step into this world.
When I first joined the project, “Singapore Oceanarium” was just an idea to many. For me, it became five years of learning, challenges, and growth.
In the shallow waters of the Straits of Johor, scientists explore a delicate seagrass meadow for one of the ocean’s most enchanting animals. Their mission: to seek out and monitor the seahorses that cling to life among the gently swaying seagrasses.
